With the rising cost of dental care for both patients and practitioners, it's time for a revolutionary kind of practice management. Using evidence-based management techniques, lean dentistry and healthcare deliver the highest quality of patient care while controlling costs and creating a culture within the workplace that encourages employees to think strategically and act precisely.
During this class, Dr. Sami Bahri—pioneer in lean dentistry, author of Follow the Learner: The Role of a Leader of Creating a Lean Culture and 2011 winner of the Shingo Research and Professional Publication Award—explains techniques he developed in his dental practice that will help you improve quality, reduce waste and empower your staff. The course will focus on the strategic thinking in management as well as the tactical every day details. Some of the topics include:
- Evolution of dental management theories leading to lean dentistry
- Lean principles applied to dentistry resulting in higher quality care, shorter in-office wait times for patients, faster progression from diagnosis to completely restored and healthy mouth, empowered employees who innovate and problem-solve, higher productivity, reduced waste and an atmosphere of mutual respect in your practice
- Types of waste and how to eliminate them through continuous improvement practices that are sustainable and continue to develop over time
- Lean scheduling to improve efficiency and eliminate patient waiting
- Lean materials handling, including reducing the cost of handling supplies, how to improve ergonomics and reduce wasted motion, and strategic supply storage
- Managing the social aspects of a lean transformation, including building a culture of continuous improvement and preparing an atmosphere for employee growth and mutual prosperity
- Determining the number of staff members required in your practice and how to best utilize their skills
Using a combination of classroom lecture and on-site training, Dr. Bahri will show how lean management principles can be applied in dental- and healthcare. Our facility is the home of Bahri Dental Group, a lean dental office, where you can observe the practical application of lean theories firsthand.
